Port to [POSIX] OSes such as OS X, Linux, *BSD

From a developer's perspective, what would it take to port the meaningful aspects of the NPP gui to an OS such as Mac OS X?
Is there any architecture documentation which might be useful for such an endeavor? Things of note might be the use of MVC and some hand waving about which modules of code belong to what functional group.
